| Budva is considered to be one of the oldest settlements by the Adriatic Sea. In Sophocles tragedy “Oikles”, written in V century B.C. a town ILIRIJ is mentioned. A legend, which has its confirmation in many Greek myths, says that Budva was founded Cadmo, a son of a Phenician king Agenora. Thrown out of Thebes, with his wife Harmonia, he reached our regions in a team pulled by oxen and he founded Budva. From a Greek word ‘Bous’ which means ox the town got its name. The indented coast of the Budva Riviera is 38km long, and has many sandy beaches, small bays and islands. The best-known beaches surrounding Budva are: Jaz I, Jaz II, Mogren I, Mogren II, Richard’s Head, Pizana, Blue magic, Slovenska beach...sport and recreation take a significant part in the tourist offer on the Riviera of Budva. Near almost every tourist settlements and hotels there are facilities for sport and recreation which are at guests’ disposal: tennis courts, courts for basketball, volleyball, handball... During the international tourism fair in Budva METUBES, from 07.02. to 09.02 there are various entertaining programs. The city fortress called “Citadela” is located in the old town of Budva. It is believed that is was founded in the year of 840. Citadela meets the city walls and it is one of their parts. A well and an arsenal guaranteed security. Budva is a coastal town by the Adriatic Sea in Montenegro, at 42°17'7”N, 18°50'37”E. The town has a population of 18,000 inhabitants and it is a centre of the municipality of Budva. The Riviera occupies the middle part of Montenegro coastline, that is the space between Jaz and Buljarice. There are two towns and 26 villages here.
